New group member
We are very excited to announce that Olavi Goussev has joined Kuijjer group at University of Helsinki as iCANDOC student. Olavi has a degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Aalto University and performed Master's thesis work in the group of collaborator Anniina Färkkilä at University of Helsinki. Olavi will be developing a deep learning approach to detect enhancer-promoter interactions in cancer.

Associate professor in Cancer Data Science at University of Helsinki
As per January 1, 2025, Mariike has started as iCAN Associate Professor in Cancer Data Science at the department of Biochemistry and Developmental Biology, University of Helsinki, Finland, where she is establishing a new group. In the spring semester of 2025, she will work 50% in Oslo and Helsinki to allow for a smooth transition. Read the interview here.

New visiting PhD student
We are happy to announce that Thomas-Sylvestre Michau has joined Kuijjer group on a 3-week research visit. Thomas-Sylvestre is a PhD student in the group of our collaborator Maud Fagny, where he works on single-sample network modeling of cis-regulatory interactions in maize response to drought. We are very excited to announce that Parastoo Shahrouzi (Paris) has joined Kuijjer group to establish the group's wet-lab arm! Paris has a degree in functional cancer genomics from the University of Basque Country, Spain, after which she joined our collaborator Vessela Kristensen's group at Oslo University Hospital on a Marie Curie Scientia II postdoctoral fellowship. Teaching in Freiburg
On November 14, Marieke gave a seminar at the MeInBio program of the University of Freiburg, followed by a hands-on workshop, in which the students learned how to model gene regulatory networks and perform a comparative network analysis PANDA. It was a pleasure to work and discuss with the intelligent and motivated students from the program.
