New group members

We are excited to welcome two new group members: Xinyi Chai and Luca Faretra, who both started at our Helsinki node in October 2026.

Xinyi has started her PhD in the group. She is joining us with a MSc degree in computational biology from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai, China. She also has experience as AI research engineer at the National Institute of Biological Sciences, Beijing, China. Xinyi will be investigating evolution of gene regulatory networks in ovarian cancer progression.

Luca is a visiting PhD student from the University of Sannio, Benevento, Italy, where he works in the Bioinformatics team of Luigi Cerulo. Luca is developing deep learning models to investigate the effect of mutations in splicing factors on alternative splicing. He will be staying with us for two months.
